September 14-17, 2018: Next meeting of the European Society of the History of Science, London

Dear members of the European Society for the History of Science,

I am writing you above all to bring to your attention two deadlines.

First of all I take this opportunity to remind you that the 8th ESHS Conference will take place in London, 14-17 September 2018.

The website of the conference is here: http://eshs2018.uk.

The form to be used to submit a symposium or a presentation can be found here: http://eshs2018.uk/index.php/call-for-papers/

The deadline for submissions is December 6, 23.59GMT.

More about the coming conference will be posted soon on the Society’s website.

Secondly, I would like to remind you that any member of the ESHS is entitled to nominate a candidate for the Gustav Neuenschwander Prize.

As you know, the Gustav Neuenschwander Prize is the ESHS’s main prize and is awarded for major outstanding life‐long contributions to the history of science.

The Prize, currently amounting to ten thousand Euros, is presented biennially at the ESHS plenary conferences. The fourth prize will be awarded in 2018 at the London 8th International ESHS Conference.

Nominations should include a detailed report on the candidate’s work, a short CV of the candidate, and a list of his/her relevant publications. They should be sent to the ESHS Secretary. For more information, see http://www.eshs.org/-The-Gustav-Neuenschwander-prize-28-.html.

The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2018

Early Career Grants. For the Prague Conference we were able to offer Early Career Grants to 10 young scholars (less than 8 years after her/his PhD) to present papers at the conference. Each grant amounts to 250 euros plus the waiving of the conference fees. The application procedure for ECG for London will be posted on the website in due time.

Finally let me remind you that all members are encouraged to use the ESHS website to post news of general interest, including forthcoming workshops and conferences, information about postgraduate programs, fellowships, job positions, and so on. To post news on the website, please contact PR officer, Matteo Valleriani (valleriani@mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de).

Please, write to us to let us know what do you think of the Society or about any proposal that you may have.  We look forward to hearing from you.

The Officers of the Society join me in wishing you the best for your work.

Best regards,

Antoni Malet
